Cruise-O-Matic Rebuilder in Florida? I have a buddy with a ‘65 Mercury Montclair that needs to have his Merc-O-Matic gone through. Anyone know a reputable rebuilder in Florida (closer to Tampa the better)?

Re: Cruise-O-Matic Rebuilder in Florida? The only transmission shop I found in Tampa that referenced “classic” vehicles was this guy. Or, he could just have you drop by and pick it up, I know there’s guys in CA still doing those. Just a short drive :).

Re: Cruise-O-Matic Rebuilder in Florida? Does he want the shop to R&R the trans or is he removing/installing himself?

Re: Cruise-O-Matic Rebuilder in Florida? Maybe contact one of these parts suppliers -

Re: Cruise-O-Matic Rebuilder in Florida? I would suggest calling around to local transmission shops and preferably mom & pop type places. National brands may have an experienced man but you just won't know till you ask. I would also get the factory transmission manual for the transmission it has. Smaller ones were the FX small case and the larger ones were MX or medium case. The FMX came out in 1966 along with the C6 so a 1965 model wasn't equipped with those. The FE engines used the MX so that may be what it has. Anyway, ask around and see if a shop has experience with them. Hard parts are harder to find but soft parts should still be out there. At least these are a vacuum modulated unit so they are still not that much different than many more modern transmissions. Any GOOD transmission tech could overhaul one as long as they have all the info on them.
