Towing a topless Roadster on an open trailer This weekend I plan to tow my Roadster down to Florida for an event. It does not have a top. The last time I towed it was when I bought it and it had no windshield or windshield frame at that time.
I'm a little worried about the windshield holding up to speeds of 70MPH without moving. What do you guys with experience do? Run it with the windshield as is? Open the windshield bottom a couple inches to let wind flow better? Fold the windshield down and strap it? Remove the windshield and frame, wrap it in a blanket and put it in the back of the tow rig? |
Re: Towing a topless Roadster on an open trailer I don't tow a Model A on a trailer at "70MPH". I'd start worrying about fender brackets / mounts at that point.

The camper shell on my truck should block a lot of the wind from the Roadster |
Re: Towing a topless Roadster on an open trailer We towed my brother- in- laws 29 roadster with the top down on an open trailer. Didn't do anything with the windshield. Towed it from Kentucky to Ohio with no problems.

Re: Towing a topless Roadster on an open trailer Remove or tape down the windshield wipers; they have a tendency to fly off over 55mph
(PS In the UK large trucks have a legal max of 56mph. Also any car or SUV is forbidden to tow at more than 60 mph) |
Re: Towing a topless Roadster on an open trailer You'll be fine. I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: Towing a topless Roadster on an open trailer I don't think I'd worry too much about it.If it concerns you take off the thumbscrews and pop it off.You have to be careful about the mat, floorboards, and seat cushions teaving town.Air parted by the tow vehicle only jumps 30 inches. At that point it tries to reconnect again. The buffeting is tremendous.Huge difference between a car being driven at 70,and one being towed at 70.The car being towed takes a huge wind beating.

Re: Towing a topless Roadster on an open trailer Build a quick wind screen, for the front of the trailer, to send the wind up and over and around the Model A. Use some "reusable" MDO and 2 X 4's.

Re: Towing a topless Roadster on an open trailer take it all off, be smart and save all your parts and pieces from any damage.

Re: Towing a topless Roadster on an open trailer I don't think I'd go over 60-65mph towing the car. Traffic will go around if they want which is fine. Protect you and your cargo.
