The vent that comes with the overdrive works fine, why not use it?

I think he is asking about a vent for the rear end, not the O/D.

Tom Endy has an article on this. https://www.santaanitaas.org/wp-cont...ntial-Vent.pdf

That's me and my rear end he is referring to. Pictures are of my rear with vent.

Re: Differential Vent

My version. I decided I wanted to keep the vent vertical. It will make lubing the shaft there a bit more work, but now no drips at the rear wheels.

Re: Differential Vent

I did the same but used a 45* angle fitting and screwed a Zenith float valve into it.

One of these?

Was the 45 a pipe fitting? How did you adapt it?

Re: Differential Vent

Install the Endy vent on the passenger side away from the large banjo gear.

Re: Differential Vent

Yes, like that but a repro. I don't know what the fitting size is but it was in my box of brass fittings.I got lucky as the threads on the float valve matched the brass fitting. I don't think it is a pipe fitting.

That sounds interesting. Do you have a picture of that?

1. Model A Zenith FLOAT VALVE is 1/2 20 (NOT pipe thread)

Re: Differential Vent

I tried drilling a vent through one of the bolts that hold the trumpets on. I put it at the top on the side opposite the crown wheel and the hole facing up. There must be a lot of oil being thrown about in there because it leaked a lot so I made another with a small plastic tube on it (like Mitchell uses on their O/D) and secured the open end up near the spring mount in the cross member I left plenty of slack in it to allow for the movement of the axle. Much better!

I did the same and it still pushed oil out the tube. That is when I decided to use the Alemite vent on the axle tube. Never a drop now.
