Dads garage back in the early 40's
 

Dad's started in 1932 selling Hudson's and use cars then sold Chrysler and Plymouth. Here a picture of one place he had in the early 40's. He later built a new garage and dropped Hudson.

In Waynesburg, Pa. Dad also had a GMC truck dealership. We also had a Firestone store and a 600 acres Dairy Farm. That where we lived back then. We had free gas and a gas well. Our house had gas lights. We got electric in 46 or 47 not sure. We moved to town in 1949. Now I sold the Farm to the Coal Co.and live in town now.Our Mailman had a Model A Ford. He use to let me ride between stops. The good old days back then.

You are truly a rich man. You were raised in a hard working family in a part of the country where people cared about each other. All the Musks, Gates and Bezos pooling together couldn't buy a past like you've had. (Perhaps they wouldn't want to, but that's their problem) :) Thanks for posting the picture and story.

Thank you for sharing. Brought back some GR8 memories fo a Packard dealership, Nash & Hudson in Ohio in the late 40s & earlt 50s. Thanks again !!!!

Hard to believe there was once daily life without a computer or cell phone.
Maybe that's why the students were smarter "back in the day" and could learn The Palmer
Method of Cursive Writing for communication.

Back when every self-respecting town had a new car dealership. Our little town of Albion, PA. had 5 new car dealerships in the 1950's and two implement dealers. Population was around 1500. We had Desoto Plymouth, Dodge, Chevrolet, Buick Pontiac and Ford Mercury. You had to be a decent person, or you wouldn't last long.

Dad was in use car's when he started but had a Hudson dealership in the early 40's then Chrysler & Plymouth later Gmc Trucks died in 1988 56 years. I ran the garage from 1972 until 1989 then sold it and Simi retired. Then focus on the farm then sold it to the coal Co. then the minerals rights then sold later then went into rentals such as houses, garages which work out very well. Now I am 85 years old and slowing down.

Old Redneck, at 84 I am a year behind you, I'd like to get a few projects cleaned up in the next year so I could think about slowing down.

I'am 83 and all my projects are gone to new owners. All ran and were licensed.

I'm 71 and thanks to 4 different heart procedures over the years I have lots of energy and a decent amount of ambition. I've still got a few tricks up my sleeve and who knows, maybe even a rabbit to pull outa my hat.

My first car was a seven year old ‘49 Ford ragtop. My biggest pleasure in life has been the friendships I’ve made in car clubs over the years. Many, many cars and a couple motorcycles later, I’m down to one pickup and one car I keep for my wife’s wheelchair. I’ll be 85 in August and still change my own oil & filter but I walk like a drunkard and hire out all the other tasks I used to enjoy doing myself. I’m not pleased with my meager lifestyle now, but I’m happy for the continued opportunity to voice my opinion on it.
