Great fabrication, outstanding workmanship but horriable what has been done to a 36 Ford roadster. Not in line with the values of this forum.

I agree. Although beautiful and undoubtably flawless craftsmanship, one trip down the street without fenders could ruin the immaculate paint job.

I built my first old car in 1962 and never looked back. I have always admired the guys with the tenacity to follow the course required to do a high end restoration. Been a 32 Ford guy since I was 12 and have built in the vicinity of 40 none of which were restorations. I never demeaned a restoration or the builder like is being done in this thread. The statement (look what's been done to a 36 roadster) nothing has been done to a 36 Ford roadster. If you followed this project from the start No Vintage Ford Parts Were Harmed In The Building Of This Car. Every inch of this car was hand fabricated by Troy's craftsmen at his shop. I could have went either way but chose a different direction than pure restoration. I saved many 32 Fords thru the last 65 years that were passed over by a restorer as not fit to build. Maybe give the other side a little respect for what they do just like you'd like them to respect what you've chosen to do.

I'm thinking that color, with black fenders, would look great on my '31 Vickie.

Thanks Krylon - as you noted, this is a total 1-off coach-built car . . . there isn't a single part of any 36 Ford roadster in the build.

I have total respect for the craftsmanship, skills and the budget that went into this rolling piece of art . . . and I know that not a single original 36 roadster was harmed. LOL

Some further details on this roadster the body was hand built in steel by a very young craftsman working a Troy's shop. Total hours to build this complete car was 15,000.

And when you do the math . . . that is about a $3,000,000 build!

You could buy quite a few 36 roadsters for that price. ;)

I too am a more as-from-the-factory guy but I admire the work and time and money somebody put into THAT bad boy! Looks pretty nice:)
If that car had been available in 1936, just like that one sits, it would have outsold Auburn-Cord-Duesnberg for the people who had the money and wanted the power!!

I would disagree with this; those people wanted prestige, size, and a golf club compartment. Now if it were sold in Jolly Olde England, it might have had a negative effect on the sales of such things as Rileys, MG's, Morgans, and such.

I have seen it numerous times now. Even read the background story on it in my Hot Rod Mag Newsletter. Looked up the Meyer's background, too. Obviously, not a low cost ride. I thot about the cost. and if you are right, I was about $2 Mil too low... :eek:

seems the 'wifey' won AMBR last year, too. Hmm, wonder if politics have anything to do with car crafting besides being able to foot the bill?

Not every build needs to fit into a neat, little box of internet forum "standards". That's the beauty of coach built cars. Only person's opinion that matters is the person footing the bill.

Well, when you figure that the shop rates for high-end shops like this are about $200 per hour, you multiply that by 15,000 hours and you get $3 mil.

That doesn't include any PARTS or things like plating and outside services.

Okay, maybe more like $4 Million! :rolleyes:
