1914 Cross Country Road Trip to Dearborn

Howdy fellas,

August 20th I will be hitting the road from Southern CA to Dearborn MI & back for Old Car Festival in my 14' Touring, Setting aside 40-45 days to do this trip without any rush. I did this trip following RT 66 last year in my 31' Coupe, however this years route will differ as my T is comfortable at 30-35 MPH and freeways are a no-go. Also avoiding wolf creek pass as it kicked my behind last year. I believe RT 66 may be the preferred route for much of the route however what do you guys recommend? I am open to suggestions and if any of ya'll may be along the route I would enjoy meeting fellow T guys along the way.

Estimating ~200 miles per day, Some of the first initial days getting up and over the mountains and the divide may result in fewer miles however after NM I should be able to cover an easy 200+ miles daily. Somewhat stock engine besides a touring cam and high compression head. Also running rocky mountains and a Ruckstell. I will be celebrating my 26th Birthday while on the road so if there is any must see stops to make I am open to recommendations.

I may be uploading my current route however there will likely be revisions.

William,
If you are going through Flagstaff, I invite you to stop and check out a collection of Model T Coupelets (and a few other Model Ts and Mustangs). Regarding your trip, my wife and I drove our Model T to the Centennial Celebration in 2008, and only drove three miles on an Interstate. It was a great trip that took us 13 days, covering 1965 miles. We drove our Fords around 42 mph and averaged 21 mpg!! If you are planning on 40 days, you will have plenty of time to visit many wonderful spots (How about the south rim of the Grand Canyon.). Have a safe trip and if you are interested, plan a stop in Flagstaff. Russ Furstnow

In 2008 for the 100th anniversary of the Model T we did the Sea to Sea Tour and travelled 120 to 180 miles per day. Your mileage may vary.
