Right rear axle seal I know I should do both,,, but humor me. Could I with sprin spreader , disconnect springs, brake rods, torsion tubes, disconnect from differential and remove right axle tube only, reconnect to differential (taking care of gasket width. Just don’t want to mess with drive shaft

Re: Right rear axle seal You could take off left side and pull out axle/differential assembly and have access to both seals.

The toughest part is the spring. So, you have to disconnect it whether you do one side or both. I'd do both. Remember they are both the same age. And yes, simply reuse your gaskets or duplicate the thickness. |
Re: Right rear axle seal What they said ∆.
Passenger side axle has to come out the driver side together with driver side. |
Re: Right rear axle seal they make an after market seal that slips over the axle one of the vendors on ford barn sells them

Re: Right rear axle seal Kurt gave you some very good advice. Been there done it.

Re: Right rear axle seal As Kube said, I might be difficult to see the colours of the gaskets if they've been in for a long time. Be very careful of removing those diff seals . If they are originals they will come out easier, if newer ones they can jam in and what happens is they'll start to break apart as you're smacking at them to get them out and in the end you'll be left with the outside of the seal stuck in there.. Then a special tool needs to be made to cut them out. When installing I take that red paint off around the outside of the seal and put some anti-seize on

I wouldn't want the seal to leak around the outer perimeter. Nor would I want to the seal to become loose within the race. |

I have gone through the heartache of when they're stuck in there. Lucky I have a mate thats a machinist and had to make a special tool to remove and cut what was left after they break apart trying to get them out. |
