31 Cabriolet in Hemmings

1931 Ford Model A Cabriolet - Hemmings.com

Just curious about this listing in Hemmings. I'll admit I don't know Cabriolets very well, but I did think they were mostly indented firewalls. According to the pictures this one isn't. I assume it's an early 31?

It may be a '30. It has a '30 grill shell.

I saw that too. Since the owner said it was a 31 I assumed he knew what he was talking about. That's what I get for assuming!

I'm guessing early 31, 68-B.It has a 30 shell, but 31 splash aprons.I have no idea how many of the straight windshield 68-B's had flat firewalls. I also have no idea if any had indented firewalls,or if any slant windshield 68-C's had flat firewalls.I think there are some Cabriolet guys here that could tell you that info down to the day.

I worked on 1 Cabriolet that had an indented firewall, but I wasn't sure which was more common. Like I said I know little to nothing about this body style and was curious.

it is a late 30 or early 31 it has the twist inner door handles however it does have a 30 grill shell. the early 31 68C`s had a flat firewall.

Thanks JW! The one I worked on went through a local auction and went for about 11k. It was about the same condition and I wish it would have suited me to buy it at the time. This caught my attention but I wasn't sure how accurate it was.

JW is right on. There’s a straight windshield 31 with ribbed dash in my shop now.
They are not rare in that genre. However, the 30 grill is likely a replacement
Ribbed dash usually has 31 grill…at least that’s what I’ve found. Haven’t done date searches.
68c is a much better design…imho

I saw that car as well. Yes both were made in 31.

demand seems to be for the slant, but I like both equally. Perhaps its a rarity thing.

Yeah, a lot of people like the late 31 models. I guess it's because they were moving towards the 32 styling? Like Ronn said, it's probably a rarity thing.
