Appears to be addressed to Edsel Ford, July 1929.

Re: FDR in a Cabriolet

FDR probably had other cars, but I have seen him in Fords more often than not. Henry was no fan of FDR, but I suspect Edsel felt differently.

Re: FDR in a Cabriolet

I wonder if he actually was driving it cause he required hand controls.

Re: FDR in a Cabriolet

There were special hand controls on that '29 Cabriolet especially installed for FDR. I believe I read somewhere that his chauffer wrecked that car in the 1930's after it was replaced by a newer model. FDR was not in the car at the time. Anybody else recall that happening?

Re: FDR in a Cabriolet

Nowadays the President or Vice President is not allowed to drive a car. President Biden once said that is one thing he didn't like about being VP, they wouldn't let him drive his '67 Corvette.

He later had a 1930 Ford Model A Cabriolet (68B):

Re: FDR in a Cabriolet

Hello, I have also seen pictures of FDR in various Fords ,the Sunshine Special was a Lincoln provided by Ford of course, but it was chauffeur driven , can see be seen in Henry Ford Museum. Ford and FDR clashed over the NRA , National Recovery Act , in peculiar the right of workers to organize. Roosevelt must have liked Ford cars but maybe not Henry!

Here is a rare photo of FDR standing up (with the use of a cane and tightly holding onto the rear top iron), with his 1928 Ford Model A Phaeton:

....and sitting in the driver's seat of his Phaeton (and the same two kids now standing on the running board):

Re: FDR in a Cabriolet

I wonder if when FDR bought his Model A's, he asked the salesman for a "New Deal"? (Only the history buffs here will get that THAT one!) :) :) ;)
