Sealing head bolts I'm sure this has been covered a lot over the years. You guys that have done this a hundred times, what is the best way to seal the threads on the head bolts.
I think I'm going to have to replace the heads on my 8BA in the coupe. Last time I had the heads off, I wasn't sure I would ever get the head bolts to stop weeping. Thanks!! Heard |
Re: Sealing head bolts Heard,
I've used ARP sealant previously. Using that, had some leakers. Most recently, I used Hercules brand steam pipe thread sealant that I got at a plumbing jobber. I'll post the exact product when I get home. It was cheap. Not one leaker and it has remained dry for months. |

Re: Sealing head bolts have used Permatex Aviation form-a-gasket on thread ends in block of head bolts and engines using studs. no leaks! but be sure contents well mixed and not any bottom settling. I coat threads fastener and threads block. read directions.

Re: Sealing head bolts The machinist who rebuilt my 8ba said to use #2 Permatex on the head bolts. No issues in 10,000 miles or so.
