1935 dump truck for KDL
 

I found a couple old show pictures of Karl's 35 dump truck and thought you might like to see them. They were taken at Owl's Head in 1999 and the ATHS show in Baltimore 2006.

That is very cool!!! That old girl really got around! She still looks exactly the same.
I never had the opportunity to meet Robert West but would have liked to. By chance I did get to meet his son Bobbie at a truck show in CT a few years ago.
Thanks so much for posting the pics. I love learning more about the history of this truck.

Yes I am! I've owned it for nine years. I like the look of the truck as it is, and I thought it would be nice to leave Mr. West's name on the door.
With the exception of the fuel gauge, everything works as it should. I had the engine rebuilt and put on six new tires. Other than the usual minor repairs, I haven't had to do much to it. One thing that amazes me about this truck is in the nine years I have owned it, the hydraulic system for the dump body has not dripped a single drop of oil! Not one. Not bad for an almost 90 year old truck. Find me a five year old truck that can claim the same.

KDL I like your truck. Your's is too nice, however if I had a '35 dump truck that was kind of crusty, I would haul dirt and rock with it. If not for just the fun of it.

Bob West was a very close friend of a friend of mine. The two of them spent a lot of time together fixing old trucks and travelling to truck shows. I heard many tales of their activities. I was at the same truck shows as the two of them several times, but only met Bob West once. My friend talked me into going to look at a 1956 Mack H63 cabover that Bob had for sale. I ended up buying it, and a truckload of other parts, too. Bob wanted to sell me more, but luckily I lived 5 hours away and the transportation expenses kept me from buying too much. I am pretty sure your 35 was there, among a bunch of very nice old trucks. At that time Bob was over 90 years old, and selling things off. My friend was in his 80's at the time, and I always got a kick out of it when he referred to Bob as "the old man".

Karl, I think Bob West had a 1935 Ford dump truck early in his career. In later years he found and restored the one you own as a tribute to his original. I know he restored an International KB for the same reason. Steve

Thanks Steve for the info. I had heard a similar story about the truck, maybe from you or Bobbie. I wonder if any of the other West’s trucks are still around?
