Who re-silvers mirror Can anyone recommend a person who re-silvers antique car mirrors. If so, did you have yours done and were you satisfied with the quality. Can you give me the vendors name, thanks

Go to your local glass shop. They might do it, or will know who does. MIKE :) |
Re: Who re-silvers mirror Go to an antique furniture dealer (mirrors) or ask someone that does chrome plating for recommendations. Also have a glass shop price cutting a new one from stock.

Re: Who re-silvers mirror After trying (unsuccessfully) to find someone to re-silver my day-night mirror, I decided to do it myself. It came out perfect.
I purchased this kit. http://angelgilding.com/A1204B.html Keep in mind that if your mirror doesn't come apart so you can remove the glass it's probably a lost cause. Most mirrors have their outer metal edges crimped over the glass. If you can un-crimp the metal and remove the glass then you may be able to have a glass company cut a new mirror. Then the problem is that you have to re-crimp the metal around the glass resulting in possible breakage or just plain looking like crap.:) |
Re: Who re-silvers mirror This is an original rear view mirror with a sandoz clock in it and bevel on the side. There are shops that can cut a 2" x 7" mirror but no one can drill a 1 3/4" hole in it for the clock and grind a place out for the stem. There are two vendors in hemmings that have an ad stating they can resilver mirrors but I was wondering if anybody use them. I know about the kits but would rather have someone else do it and know that it will turn out right. Hard to believe no one has ever had a mirror resilver. As for myself, I would rather have an original glass resilver than purchase a reproduction glass. And yes, I know about the guy that sells mirrors with clocks on ebay but his glass is not made right.

He did the day night mirror for my 50 Ford in 2006. $40. I also posted a reply on the Early Ford V-8 web site. |
