17-year-old surfing pioneer Mary Ann Hawkins rides through the flooded streets of Venice after days of heavy rain, February 1937.

As a friend of mine from Wisconsin would say "only in LA".

Venice was not a place to go when I was growing up. There were many 1920s canal houses available for 5-10,000. Today they are 2-8 million. Again I have 20/20 hindsight as to where I should have invested.

It appears the guy driving the car is craning his neck out the window to watch her, not the flooded road ahead.

For a 1958 view of Venice, the movie Touch of Evil, the opening scene is filmed at Venice Beach. Notice the oil derricks in the background. Great movie

Is it too late to send her a card for her 105th birthday?
