opinion please? Carpenters weather stripping
 

I have a large order sitting in my Dennis Carpenter basket waiting for me to check it out.

There is a complete set of everything that is available for a 1950 Custom Deluxe Club Coupe, plus front and rear screen rubbers for my 1950 Custom Deluxe Fordor sedan.

It adds up to quite a costly purchase and I don't want to get all the way to NZ and find that I have purchased rubbish.

Does anyone have experience of the quality and fit of any of these parts?
Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Carpenter was my go to guy for weather stripping when I restored my 2 V8's years ago as he prided himself on the quality of his stuff which his company made. Not sure about now as he has passed or do I know where it is now made.

In general (though I do not usually deal in shoebox parts) Carpenter is reliable and good to excellent quality. As with any manufacturer there are a few (very few) "turkeys" in his line. Drake is in the same boat with quality parts (and the few "turkeys"), but does not keep stock up as well and communicates stock status poorly. I tend to shy away from Vintique rubber parts if possible.

You might check with Shoe Box Central. I've had good luck with them for parts for my '54 Ranch Wagon.

Thank you Graeme / New Zealand and Karl Wescott that is just what I was hoping to hear, I will put the order through and hope that all is well.

I have spent a bit of time in the past making "not quite right" parts fit and work so was hoping to not have to do it with this car.

51504bat thanks, I too have had good experience with the parts that I have purchased from Shoebox. Having specialized sellers like them ensures that these cars will live a bit longer.
I got quite a few parts for my 54 Vicky from them, all very good quality.

Sorry I don’t know about shoebox stuff but one thing I will suggest you look into is shipping cost. I believe from previous experience Carpenters uses UPS for international shipping and they only ship international using their next day air service ( you will NOT get it next day or even close) but the charges are ridiculous high. USPS is the best and most economical way to ship to NZ. I ship a bunch.

Has anyone tried Metro Moulded Parts Inc.? I have contemplated trying them for my '37. Tom.

Metro Molded has some very good stuff, they have a few parts no one else has. However their selection for EARLY Ford is very limited, and their parts interchange is highly suspect at best.

Typically windlace is upholstery wrapped around a core of some type, then stitched to leave a "tail". Typically it is then installed with the "tail" between the upholstery panel and the body. The door then contacts the lacing providing a bit of wind seal. My guess is what Metro sells for windlacing is a core that will still require upholstery to be stitched to it. Note that a core could be twisted paper, round foam rubber, hollow rubber tube, or hollow rubber tube with molded "tail", or some other similar material.
