32 v8 early rear end driveshaft bearing Were the early 32 driveshaft bearings more prone to fail than later?
|
Re: 32 v8 early rear end driveshaft bearing If you are talking about the front bearing, its the same thing model A thru 48.
Pinion bearings the same (on a 32 v8) up to 36 |
Re: 32 v8 early rear end driveshaft bearing Sorry, but most '32s were built with B-prefix rear axle assemblies, be they fours or V8s, and the pinion bearings in those axles, B-4621, are not the same as those used in the late '32 18-prefix rear axle assemblies whose pinion bearings were 18-4621. They do not interchange.

Re: 32 v8 early rear end driveshaft bearing Its the front bearing behind the TT bell I am referring to and it is the early one,
|
Re: 32 v8 early rear end driveshaft bearing As cas3 notes, B-4645 was used from 1928 through 1938,
Ever think about buying a reprint parts catalog? They' inexpensive and you'd save yourself a lot of time. |
Re: 32 v8 early rear end driveshaft bearing If the question relates to 32 Fords, DavidG has the definitive answer, every time.
What a treasure. |
Re: 32 v8 early rear end driveshaft bearing I believe 28 thru 48 except on open drive line pickups for the front bearing.
|
Re: 32 v8 early rear end driveshaft bearing I am a bit confused about this question.
The early 32's had a single bearing in front of the pinion, whereas in the later 32's, the pinion had a bearing on both sides of the pinion...correct? Are these the bearings we are talking about in this post? |
Re: 32 v8 early rear end driveshaft bearing 1 Attachment(s)
NO, He is talking about this bearing.Look at the illustration.6th part number from the top
|
Re: 32 v8 early rear end driveshaft bearing Question is, is the bearing shown above more prone to failure than later versions. I have had a lot of early Fords 28-48 and never had one of those bearings to go bad. Even in sever use, dirt track cars.
|
Re: 32 v8 early rear end driveshaft bearing The reason I tried to answer your question in the first place is the bearing never changed for 20 years, so what later version do you speak of? maybe I can learn something here too!
|
Re: 32 v8 early rear end driveshaft bearing The early and late referred to 32's only, the early version was like an A with the driveshaft going thu the pinion gear and had a round end on the TT. The later version was more like 33 up rear ends. I have owned a lot of early Fords and never had that bearing fail.
