Generator Front Bearing

After only 1600 miles on a rebuilt generator, I am getting noise and can feel a loose generator bearing. I don't remember where I purchased it but it is probably from China. Does anyone have a modern, USA made sealed bearing number that I should use to fix this problem?

It takes a 6203RS. Readilly available from many sources.

Make sure you have all the proper spacers, c-clips etc in the proper order. Otherwise you'll have excessive end play.

Oil it regularly - oil hole hidden by clip and hard to see

Mine is bad. How do you get that nose pully assembly off without a press, and not bugger up the shaft?

Re: Generator Front Bearing

Use a bearing puller to pop the pulley off the tapered shaft. You'll need to remove the armature and front plate from the generator body, remove the 4 rivets or screws that hold the bearing retainer plate. Then pull it apart. Be careful not to bend or distort the retainer plate, otherwise it will rub when reassembled. I restore a lot of these generators and see a lot if shoddy, previous repairs. If yours failed in 1600 miles, something was not done right.

Re: Generator Front Bearing

Use either Timken (FAFNIR), FAG GERMAN MADE, BCA, RHP/SKF brands,
BUT make certain&sure that the bearing itself has/says" MADE IN FRANCE(SNR)/GERMANY/UK/USA", on the bearing itself&NOT just on the box! as the major bearing companies have there deep groove radial single row ball bearings (6203 2RS) made in china/india/korea! :(.
