Does Wayne Carini Like Model A's?

3 Attachment(s)
It appears the answer is a resounding YES!

Earlier this September 2024, Wayne Carini from Chasing Classic Cars, was a guest speaker at the annual CMARC Meet. As history has it, in the fall of 1952 Wayne's father, Bob Carini, along with a half dozen original local Connecticut members decided to form a regional group dedicated to the Model “A” that became C.M.A.R.C., Connecticut Model “A” Restorers Club and eventually rejoining MARC as a chapter member.

Fast forward to 2024, Wayne Carini was at the CMARC Meet talking with Model A owners and enjoying the cars and camaraderie. One of the conversations he had was with John Lampl of Burtz Block and learning about the re-engineered Model A engine designed by Terry Burtz. John stated, "Wayne seemed to be quite impressed by the improvements in the design. His love of cars is evident and how the Burtz Block engine helps Model A owners experience the fun of driving one and the improved reliability for a lot of years".

As I recall from Chasing Classic Cars, Wayne’s father did meticulous restorations of Model As.

Seem to recall an episode where Wayne tried to locate and buy back his Dad's Model A. He found it but did not close the deal.

Wayne finally was able to purchase his father's A400. We saw it at his shop in CT at the 67 annual New England Meet. He told the story of finding it and then eventually purchasing it back.

I will echo what Ronn says in post #5 above.

Wayne's father was inducted into the Model A Hall of Fame in 2021: https://www.maffi.org/Nominations/HOFYear08.pdf

I happened to run into him at Hershey a few years ago and he was very happy to chat. Makes me cut him some slack with the somewhat contrived nature of his TV show. That nature seems to be required for general audience appeal.

I don't see any reason to fault him for his interests. He likes old cars just like the rest of us do. He is in a position to avail himself to a lot of automobiles that I could never afford nor have the time to restore due to their rarity. He is lucky to be able to do that.

My mentor for the old cars worked for Bill Harrah at his museum in Reno back when Bill was still alive. He was a specialist on the Stanley Steamer cars due to his amazing welding skills. He rebuilt boilers and condensers as well as the frames, bodies, and engines. He worked on or helped restore and maintain just about every car that came through Bill's museum shop. He couldn't afford the cars that Bill had but he did own two 1908 Brush cars as well as others in his time and he got to appreciate the cars that he couldn't afford. He passed that appreciation on to me. Bill owned a Model K Ford which was about the largest car available in 1908 and my friend Nolan owned two of the smallest cars built in 1908 but I think he had more fun with those cars than Bill ever had with the model K.

I liked the older fellow that Wayne Carini had working on all the old cars in his shop. I could tell he was a character just like my friend Nolan was. Wayne likes to own them but a lot of us like the challenge of the restoration just as much or maybe more.

Hello, to his credit, I never saw him do “burnouts “ on his show, like the other half wits .Recently here where I live a man was killed driving his Pontiac in a reckless manner. Some of the car shows seem to promote this foolishness, ones I don’t go to anymore.

I liked watching Mr. Carini's show just for the entertainment factor. I don't know the man nor never met him but his show was sure a lot more fun to watch than 95% of the worthless dribble 'reality' phony shows TV likes to sell you!

gdmn852 I'm glad I'm not the only one to feel that way. I quit going to a local car show that the street rodders took over it started getting out of hand with the burnouts and all of that, I saw a mother and her pre-school age son dam near get wiped out by a Mustang that some guy was showing off in, he lost control ran up on the sidewalk and if she hadn't grabbed that little boy and dived out of the way they would both be dead today.

THAT was enough for me....people's stupidity never ceases to amaze me the older I get.

One of the late members in my local A club had a Brush. Only one I ever saw. Wood frame. That car was fairly primative.

There was some noise on the internet about Wayne not treating his mechanic very well. Since it was on the internet it should be taken with some grains of salt. His shows on TV were interesting, I thought, and would watch them on the rare occasions that I actually watched TV.

I’m from Connecticut and have seen and talked to Wayne at the airport, an a number of local car shows.

My feel is that he is in it for the money. He can read a room very well. If there is someone there that looks like someone he should know, he’s there. Otherwise he is friendly, but passes people by very quickly.

That could be what happens to people that think they are famous.

Enjoy

No problem, there are plenty of crazy drivers in NW Illinois today even our 22 year old nephew has commented on it so it's not a grouchy old guy thing!

It's bad sometimes. Luckily the majority are good drivers:) Most respect you in an old car they are patient.

One observation about all of this that I WILL comment on, and it struck me as weird at the time, was when he found that 1922 Stutz Bearcat Roadster, in really nice condition. He bought the car and was very excited about it, and commented on THAT was one he had dreamed about all of his life owning. I thought that was neat! What a neat car!

But then about 6 months later on his show the car was at a high level car auction, Southby's? Some kind of Concourse high level high dollar deal? and he was unloading it?? I thought to myself 'So much for the car you dreamed about owning all your life. Some things have no real personal value. That day he was just a flipper in my eyes.....

And I admit he slipped a bit in my opinion of him.

Re: Does Wayne Carini Like Model A's?

I don’t understand faulting a business person for doing business. He and his father before him were car salesman. Many car dealers and mechanics/ restorers also deal cars. This is the difference between a business and a hobby although some are both. Simply thinking that anyone including a business person cannot pine for, own and resell their dream car is a bit lacking. We have a club member who buys, services, restores and drives cars he is interested in then typically sells them within two years. He is a hoppiest enjoying what he does, doesn’t have the overhead expense of maintenance and storage. He has owned more dream cars than I ever will because I have trouble letting go. I admire him for it.
