AA transmission Working with a museum in another state that is trying to put an AA trans. back together. Their question is how the rear bearing retainer parts are assembled.
Was wondering which way the inner plate is installed. Any pictures available? Thanks for any help. |
Re: AA transmission Glass beaded my motor mounts to get them ready for paint on my ‘29 Tudor. Still have 4 months to wait for my engine and trans to come back from the Rebuild Shop. Tomorrow I will be dropping off my radiator for a cleaning / repair / paint at the radiator shop.

Re: AA transmission 2 Attachment(s)
Here are a couple of pictures that might be of use.....this transmission was in an A ccpu so the rear retainer has been altered, but it might give you a starting point

Re: AA transmission There are two styles of rear AA truck trans rear bearing retainer 4 speed . The most common is a pressed steel retainer which works with the muff coupling jack shaft . Later a bipartible U/J was used with a cast bearing retainer very similar to the 3 speed trans . With this setup you can change the clutch without Pulling the back axle back . It is easy to see which retainer they have ,

Re: AA transmission 2 Attachment(s)
Attachment 549841
Attachment 549842 Hopefully these are the pics of the parts. Need correct sequence of parts. Does this housing have grease zerk like the A? If not does it have a specific way to be mounted? |
Re: AA transmission 1 Attachment(s)
You only use one of those parts, depends on what coupling shaft you have. If you have a u-joint on the trans output you use the large bearing retainer. If you have the splined coupling shaft you use
the small stamped retainer. |
Re: AA transmission I have a 4 sp. at home I can take pics of when I get home.
