fuel pump 1936 ford v8

I with a kit I rebuilt a period fuel pump which performs OK but is noisy. My 38 ford ford runs quiet. What could be the cause of the loud noise? Sonny

Your pivot shaft may be sloppy, allowing too much slack at the pushrod. A farmer fix is cheap and quick: Cut a small shim from a leather shoe tongue to insert between the pushrod and the operating lever. Or, spend a couple bucks and buy a ready made shim, they’ve been around for many years.
