Dual Master Cylinder upgrade proportion valve question.

As mentioned in another post-my 48 hydraulic brakes went out in my 34 Ford.

It currently has the one cylinder master cylinder which meant all my brakes went out when one went.

I’m thinking about upgrading to the dual master cylinder.

Do I need to put a proportional valve on it or some sort of residual pressure valve for the rear brakes?

I appreciate your responses.

Proportioning valves are not needed on vintage drum/drum car systems.

Your early Ford Lockheed drum brakes need residual valves with a dual master upgrade, to replace the (check) valve in the original single master. Residuals can be located behind the tube seats on many drum/drum OE masters, or installed inline with aftermarket 10# valves to each axle.

I done countless customer chassis with drum/drum brakes and no proportioning valve. I do use a 1 inch bore dual MC with built in check valves.

ditto; I use a drum/drum 61/62 Cadillac master with Ford brakes 39/48. Newc

Note that most master cylinders without a external manifold/connection block, that have rear drum or front and rear drum brakes, incorporate the check valves within the master cylinder.

As far as I know 61 master cylinders, Cadillac or whatever, were single circuit units. 62s were dual circuit.

That's what I found too John, first year 1962.
