Trans and diff woes.. 7 Attachment(s)
Ok so this is in my 35 pickup 39 trans, 40diff.
I have a few issues to address, Ive smashed teeth off the second gear cluster [so ill be calling out for one 68-7113. 28-24-18-14T] and the sleeves we put on the diff a while back are just cactus*. Im just getting a consensus with you guys as to why its cut a ring top and bottom, the pattern and the degeneration. Picks are LT for Left Top - so on. I believe they may be soft, which we may have done [well not me] as they were heated in a furnace before sleeved on. The original bearing that came with the kit were soft cages and they were in for about 6 months at least before replacing with hardened ones. However there seemed to be nothing wrong with them. |
Re: Trans and diff woes.. I think you’ve answered your own question, and beyond those reasons, I’ve heard that some sleeves were soft from the git go. BTW, your differential is the banjo, those are your axle housings. On your transmission rebuild, you might consider ‘39 gears with a 91A shift fork. You’ll be happy with that improved synchromesh.

Re: Trans and diff woes.. John Conelly at Columbia two speed has the hard sleeves. Do check your syncro blocker rings. If the cluster gear was purchased new when the transmission was rebuilt some of the off shore clusters were not hardened properly. You may want to contact VanPelt and ask Mac about clusters. he may also have the proper hard repair sleeves.

Re: Trans and diff woes.. I talked with John Connelly a couple of months ago and he is very reasonable in cost to install the sleeves. I got mine from C&G but it seems they no longer carry them. VanPelt has the hardened sleeves too.
