Throttle and choke cable install
 

Hello Ford Barn,
Does anyone know how to install the throttle and choke cables? I'm bringing my '46 coupe back to a stock flathead. I have no idea how to run these new cables through the firewall. The holes on the firewall seem too small for the big rubber tube located in the middle of the cable.

Pull the grommet free from the dash panel (aka firewall). Install the cable. Then reinstall the grommet.
I've attached a photo of an unrestored '47 (same as your '46) that should help.

I get that but how do I get the vibrator elbow through the fire wall? The throttle knob is force fitted on and won't fit through the fire wall either.

Do you have rods or cables?
I'm guessing rods. If so, push them through the dash panel from the inside of the car.

I did mine a little different. I separated the rods by removing the rubber joint (91A-9702) and installed the choke/throttle cables thru the dash and firewall grommet. Then installed the retaining clips behind the dash. The new 91A -9702 joints need the metal ends removed and then should slip over both ends of the rods. Connect the spring-loaded ends to the carburetor and you are done.

You should not have had to separate anything. They were installed as an assembly at the factory.

My problem is the holes in the firewall are not big enough to slide the new cables through. One end is the knob and the other end is the rubber elbow to stop vibrations.

I just did what 1942deluxe said. Pull off the rubber from the ends of the rods and install thru the firewall. You’ll need to replace the dried/hard rubber ones anyway. The ends of the rods at the rubber pieces have notches to retain them in the rubber
