1955 fairlane crown vic - carb rebuild
 

Is there anyone west coast that does carb rebuilds? Mechanic said fuel is leaking thru a worn throttle body, which I assume is not a gasket issue/something I can fix. They won't work on my car/start the engine till this is fixed. Someone in the pacific northwest would be great but I suppose this is a dying skill. TIA.

delco, if it were mine, I'd pack it up and ship it off to Sal Cicala. Sal's one of the best Ford carb people in the country. He's in Michigan and his email contact is [email protected].

I'm here in AZ, and that's what I did with my Holley Teapot for my '56. It came back as good..or maybe better...than new and it's worked perfectly ever since. (Once you've done this, you can forget about carb issues for good.)

Agree you don't want to be messing with a potential engine fire from a fuel leak!!!

Hello Don't know what carb you are talking about, if it is a Holley 4000 teapot, I redid bushing (bronze) in in primary throttle plate. Normally symptoms uneven idle ,hard to adjust idle screws as carb is pulling air in around loose fitting shafts. Most carbs (?) do not have TS bushing and it is a hard to repair. Great thing about teapots bushing are replaceable. When I did mine (just) the teflon bushing were not available so I used the complete kit with shaft, plate screws and instructions. If you dont have turning lathe I would buy kit with shafts. Check TB vendors for kits.

Hello COS,

His carburetor is a Holley 94 type, but concerning Holley 4000 teapots, I've found the bronze bushings are not what wears out since they are way harder than the plated brass throttle shafts. The shafts get grooved from the bushings.
I'd bet the one you did had a worn throttle shaft and not so much the bushings
