Horn Armatures Is anyone making armatures?

Re: Horn Armatures The only new stuff is the Sparton reproduction horns. I don't think they sell the armature as a separate part. The originals can be rewound and restored as long as the old part is still restorable. Each manufacturer made their parts in subtly different ways so not all are interchangeable.
On an old Ames unit I found in a trash dump years ago, the armature is rebuildable but the commutator literally came apart. They likely used a fibrous material to attach the copper segments to and whatever it was turned to dust. The segments are still good but I figure to try a micarta bushing if I ever get around to trying a repair on it. I'd use a high temp epoxy adhesive to hold it all together. There was a thread on here not long ago that has information about rebuilders that can rewind the armatures. PS: here is a link https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showt...+repair&page=2 |
