What currently available distributor is best to use with a cast iron Miller OHV head? I believe that the cam is a Winfield grind. I have used a late model Mallory unit, but when I set the timing to run best at speed, the engine kicks back when trying to start. The advance kit for the Mallory is no longer available since Mallory became part of group.

Can you use a mechanical advance, like the stock Model A? Or, you might try the automatic advance that sits in the valve chamber. I will see if I can google it and put some more information in this post.

FSI Zipper. They can set the curve for high compression heads.

• 16 to 18 degrees of centrifugal advance available for high compression Flat heads.

All of the Mallory distributors have centrifugal advance mechanisms
Yours needs adjustment to allow for starting/cranking timing to be closer to tdc
But try this do not turn on ignition until you have the motor cranking over then turn on ignition
This is old trick to using magneto with no advance

Thank you Model A29. I will call FSignitions soon. Price on the internet is a bit scary, but if it solves my problem it may be worth it.
John ..I have been using that old trick, but would like to make it work like it should.
