Re: 1936 sedan guage info swap I'm looking for some simple aftermarket type guages the original ones that were in here are kinda bad
Anyone try those dolphin brand guages by chance they seem simple enough |
Re: 1936 sedan guage info swap 2 Attachment(s)
I used a SW speedometer, water temperature, and fuel level gauges along oil pressure and charge warning lights. Easy to fit without any crazy modifications; just a little welding & drilling. If you prefer all gauges, it isn't anymore work to do so; like the red dash I did for my buddies '33.

Re: 1936 sedan guage info swap Take your original 4 gauges and disassemble it. Replace the 3 round gauges with modern 2” gauges temp & oil & volts then in the bottom where the thermometer was put your high beam light and turn signal flasher. It’s a relatively simple job. Don’t disassemble anything off the new gauges. You can have them rotated to work with the original cover plate or set the all horizontal and modify the cover plate.
I am building mind with fuel & oil & water for the round 3 and just an idiot light for the volts So in the slot for the thermometer I will have green at the bottom for high beam then yellow in the middle for turn signal and red at the top for volts |

Re: 1936 sedan guage info swap This may sound a bit out there, but I've been a VW guy for years so i looked for a later VW speedo it has gas gauge and lights for high beam oil press plus more. It fits the large hole. I put two after market volt and temp in the other holes. no cutting so if someone wants to go back to original no problem. No one has ever said anything against the look. just put a VDO gas gauge, works great

Re: 1936 sedan guage info swap 4 Attachment(s)
Well bought guages for a 57 chevy
Had to make the Speedometer hole a little bit bigger and that's it |
Re: 1936 sedan guage info swap Looks good; they match the radio dial well. Now you have to squeeze an oil pressure gauge and voltmeter (or ammeter) in there. I think they'll fit.

Re: 1936 sedan guage info swap Yeah I might hide them in the glove box this way I have a clean look
|
Re: 1936 sedan guage info swap Just get a good set of stewart warner Mechanical gaudges, some vintage looking, and mount them under your dash, i have a oil pressure and temp on the left side of the steearing wheel
