Re: HAMB '39 covert find under $8,000 Looks like a worthy project at an affordable price for someone with the skills to build it themselves.

These days in my opinion, it is much cheaper to buy a "done" car than attempt to get one of this level to even a decent driver. |
Re: HAMB '39 covert find under $8,000 "Kube" is 100% correct. With car prices dropping and restoration/parts costs soaring, best to " buy one done". You'll save $$ and be able to enjoy it right away.

Re: HAMB '39 covert find under $8,000 Always been my favorite car.

Re: HAMB '39 covert find under $8,000 Ahh, what a decision, especially when a guy or gal is in the grey years. Is it the destination or the journey?? I would pick the journey but hands and feet keep telling me different. Ya gotta have something to do besides looking forward to the next trip to the restroom. LOL

Re: HAMB '39 covert find under $8,000 I think I could get that to my own standards for $7500.

Re: HAMB '39 covert find under $8,000 This car and the posts in this thread say a lot about the state of the old car hobby today.

Been sayin' it for a long time now ..... "Old cars are on their way OUT!" The 'old car hobby is going through its FINAL hurrah as us old geezers head west, just like the reproduction parts are not being reproduced any more on a scale like when the hobby was strong and healthy. The potential buyers are all drying-up and moving on. DD/Coop . |
Re: HAMB '39 covert find under $8,000 I basically agree with Coopman but there is a very interesting article in the current AACA magazine entitled "The Future of the Old Car Hobby". The article is about two young ladies (teenagers) who are restoring cars on a professional level. Maybe this is an "exception proves the rule" example but it was an uplifting story giving us geezers a ray of hope that all is not lost, at some level.

Re: HAMB '39 covert find under $8,000 Used to be personal memories involved, then it became just a business. Now the memories reason is leaving and the 'business' is taking over Good or bad. Newc

Re: HAMB '39 covert find under $8,000 I disagree with most of the "hobby is dying" comments, but I'm probably the youngest poster in this thread. Sure some parts aren't being made anymore, but how often do you see people selling their tooling so the parts continue to be made? Rarely, then the family goes through it and tosses it piece by piece since no one can figure out what it's for.
As for the car, I can see why it's under $8k. It's missing a lot of parts, a lot of the pricey parts. Imagine the number of swap meets it would take to round all of the missing parts up, and the cost to attend the swap meets! |
Re: HAMB '39 covert find under $8,000 '39 was Ford's first yr of good Standardization of body dimensions. I lowered a '39 cpe onto a '39 fordor Floor and welded it up. Fit perfectly! Even used the fordor cowl- cut middle of A pillars and B pillars met at floor level. It's my aviar on HAMB. Local V8 member lowered a '42 Merc convert body onto a Merc cpe floor, Finished fine-Now in the New England area. The covert could be saved. Newc
