6.00 x 16 tire swap information needed

Hello everybody I'm working on a 36 Ford Sedan nothing fancy just trying to fix a simple old school car I am in need of four tires for this monster what is a tire replacement that I can get for this car I just don't see myself spending 230 bucks a tire with white walls from Coker what is a regular size tire that I could buy that will fit this rim thank you in advance

You would use 600X16 tires. Check to see what your local tire store can do for you with some 16" blackwall radials that would work for you.

Welcome to 2024.
$230 for a tire may seem pricey but that's about what you should expect.
Blackwall tires are probably a bit more reasonable and truly, most '36 Fords were delivered with blackwall tires.

I'd replaced tires on three of my vehicles last summer. The cheapest set was $320 each. The most expensive just shy of $600 each.

$230? To me, that seems like a bargain.

I tend to agree with TJ on a number (the majority) of topics. This time not so much. Sorry TJ. Me? I'd be hesitant to put radials on your car unless you know for a fact the suspension and front chassis is in A1 condition.

How about finding a decent set of used tires? Are you a member of any local clubs? Seems like a lot of guys, me included, have an extra set of decent tires stashed away.

I found a set of Firestone Deluxe Champions (600X16) at a swap meet for $300 at a swap meet last fall. Still had the nubs on them, said to have less than 1,000 miles use which I think was true. 10 years old but not cracked. Also watch Facebook market place. In our area they seem to show up on occasion.

Kube makes good sense regarding the condition of the front end regarding using radials. The problem with used tires is usually you have to mount and balance them yourself as many tire shops will not mount them(I'm speaking about California and they check the date codes before mounting them).

I guess used tires are OK if you don't drive your cars a lot. The last thing I want to (or can) do is change a tire on the side of the road. New radials for me. Anyone here driving a car on a regular basis with a worn out front end should seriously reconsider what they're doing. I never understood the disdain for radial tires. I initially had a set of Firestone bias-ply re-pops on my '51. They were scary to drive on compared to the radials that replaced them. Driving these cars is the most important thing to me.

Re: 6.00 x 16 tire swap information needed

I agree with Tubman. I have radials, with tubes on wide five wheels on my ‘37 pickup but have bias plys on my other drivers. The radials are fine but I did rebuild the complete front end. The bias plys like to follow grooves in the road.

Ohc Joe, i have a '37 fordor with riveted artillary stye wheels which had bias ply wwwalls whe i got it over 4 yrs ago. early last spring one innertube started to leak. i was aware the tires were nine years old,so i decided to go for modern radials.i did not want to spend 400.bucks per tire for the www from coker and the like. its not a show car nbut a very nice driver which i do drive almost every day for 45 min-1 hr. trips around locally. i sort of was concerned about going tubeless but i asked the local mom and pop tire shop thats been here in town for over 50 yrs. they said they would put that black sealant on every rivet i think there are eleven per wheel.the wheels have not leaked 1 lb. of air in the last year. blew my mind! some will say that the wheels up untill what late '60s early '70s didnt have that safety bead and the tires would walk off the rims especially in turns. i probably drive sensivly in corners and dont excede 50mph mostly 35- 45mph. rides ,handles, brakes better than those old bias plys.btw i got the new tires on amazon free shipping for $107.00 ea. and are black walls which some has said were born that way. i kinda like the rum runner look. your results may vary.ha ha.what shape are your wheels in? and are spoked correct?welded? size i bought-225/75R/16 these seemed to mmic closely to the 6.50/16 that came on car initially were 6.00/16 from factory. these radials are a little wider than the 6.50s.hope i could help. Tom.

Re: 6.00 x 16 tire swap information needed

I put tubeless radials on the stock Ford wheels on my '51 about 12 years ago. It is the only car that I have that hasn't had a slow leak at some time in it's life. I didn't even put sealant on the rivets.

Awesome Tom thanks
I have thebstock style for the 36
I will be having the wheels powder coated soon
Wheels are in great shape

I will look into the size tire this weekend
Anyone know if the small aluminum type cap pops off easily on the big center cap on these type of artillery wheels also

Re: 6.00 x 16 tire swap information needed

I would use sealant on the rivets after the powder coating is done. Nothing fancy jus a good coat of flex seal or the like down the center of the rim. Just to be sure you don't end up with the annoying slow leaker. I do this to all the riveted rims I run on my old rides. Tim
