Slipping clutch
 

wondering if i used 20w50 conventional oil would stop clutch from slipping. i have been using 10w30 conv. in her the last couple of years. before i had used 10w40 conv.never had used synthetic. also i've been adding 4oz. of lucas TB Zinc withe the oil changes. also clutch seems to be adjusted proper. bites at about 3-4" from all the way out. You don't want any oil on your clutch. If it is slipping it is either worn out or way out of adjustment. It would be best to replace the disk and make proper adjustment.

A slipping clutch is not due to the type of engine oil you are using.
However, engine oil may be dripping on the clutch disc and pressure plate.
Remove the inspection cover on the transmission and inspect with a flashlight.

19Fordy,would there be less chance of a heavier 20w50 conv.motor oil vs 10w30 conv.motor oil getting past the rear main seal into bell housing and on clutch disc/pp. no oil seems to be dripping out of weep hole in bottom of bell housing.btway there is no cotter pin in that hole. possibly plugged? Tom.

Usually oil passing the rear main can't get past the flywheel to get to the disk. Check the hole to see if there isn't a pool of oil in the flywheel housing.
