What is this serial number about? Trying to get answers on a Model A serial number that is on the frame. The number starts off AX4684…. The number shows up as May of 1931 but what is up with the AX? The original engine is gone so it doesn’t match. Has anyone seen this before or are there any other examples? Let the theories fly.

Re: What is this serial number about? First two letters are an abbreviation for the city where produced/manufactured but there are some Such as AX that haven't been identified thru the years of research. They have one two or three letters. I'm sure someone may have the answer. What kind of Model A do you have with that number and any history of the vehicle?Owners?

Re: What is this serial number about? The X was used to obscure an incorrectly stamped number. Look very closely for traces of another number underneath.

Re: What is this serial number about? I found this on Ford Garage. Ford still uses the X on some experimental/race parts.
