Do I need a solid core plug wire on a 1933 Ford ?
 

I had a problem with a intermittent running condition on my new to me stock 1933 Ford Model B. I traced it to the coil wire and ordered a correct replacement from a reputable vender waited the week to get it for it not to fit. It was short by 3 inches ( insert joke here ), So I was going to just made one from a standard Carbon core plug wire to get the car running .



I know this sounds a little weird, but you just cant use any coil wire the coil is mounted under the dash on a Model B 4 cylinder. This makes the coil wire a little over 2 feet long.


Will a carbon core wire work, does it need the solid core wire to conduct the 6V better ?

Your local NAPA should carry solid core wire by the foot, mine does.

I would stay away from anything but solid core copper plug wires on these old cars. Maybe if you have everything else sorted and need to solve some radio interference problems, but how many of us are in that boat?

Thought I would give an update on this parts need, I was just about to acquire all the parts to make my own replacement coil wire and included points wire, when I found a vender that carry's the correct part.


The one I had previously received form a different vender is a 1932 model B car and will fit 1932 model B car and 1932 to 1934 model B pickups at about 23 inches, but there is a correct 1933 & 1934 model B car plug wire available at about 27 inches. I went and pick one up today and I will fit it on the car tonight and see how it works out.
