Under dash auxiliary oil pressure gauge for a shoebox Could you guys give me some ideas for a good oil pressure gauge for a 1950 Ford 226 6 cyl.,6 volt ? Thank you.

You can get one of these at most any auto parts store, OR Ebay has 'em. ;) . |
Re: Under dash auxiliary oil pressure gauge for a shoebox I think mechanical oil pressure gauges are preferable to electrical ones, so voltage is not in the picture (except for changing the light bulb). There are any number of reasonably priced gauges out there that should work fine. In a weaker moment a few years ago, I bought a bunch of Sun-Pro gauges on closeout from Summit for ridiculously low prices. I think I have a few oil pressure gauges left. They are in their original packaging and include the feed line and any adapters that may be required. I believe that I still have both black and whites faced units.
I'll never use all of them, so I would be willing to part with one for the princely sum of $10 (plus shipping). Let me know what you think and I'll check my "inventory". |
Re: Under dash auxiliary oil pressure gauge for a shoebox I like old Stewart Warner gauges too that look like they would have been put in the car in the 1950s. Modern gauges look out of place to me. I like the mechanical gauges because they have a 3/4-degreel sweep of the needle instead of a partial sweep like the electric gauges do. Just be careful how you run the line, make sure to run the line through a grommet in the firewall. They make the repro SW gauge that have the winged emblem and the cool looking needle, but they seemed kind of cheap to me. I ordered a set of them when they first came out, I was disappointed with them. I'd rather look for original SW "winged" gauges, but they can be expensive, but they look cool. I would look to see what was available in 1950 and then try to find one of those gauges. They change the insignia on the gauges several times throughout the years.

Re: Under dash auxiliary oil pressure gauge for a shoebox 3 Attachment(s)
I checked when I was at my shop today, and I do have one of each (white and black faces). Here's a couple of crappy pictures. As stated before, they are in their unopened packaging and have everything you will need for installation.
