Flywheel cover and rear motor mounts...

Received the following email from someone:

I am writing you to request clarification regarding Model A motor mounts.

I have heard that,

"The original mounts were designed to create a cross member in conjunction with the flywheel housing."

Is this true?

Thanks in advance for any info on the subject.
