Turn Signal Lever Rattle

Like a lot of the cheap, steering column mounted turn signal units, mine rattles horribly when the car is driven at higher speeds. As soon as you get to the rpm range where the engine gets buzzy, the lever rattles fore and aft against the body and front cover of the signal unit. It’s one of the $20 Everlasting brand models. I’m trying to decide whether to try modifying it to minimize the rattle or to just replace it with a higher quality signal switch. Has anyone had this problem with the Signal-Stat switch? The engine vibration is easy enough to get used to and chalk up to being a century old 4 cylinder but rattling noises like this make it much harder to ignore. If all the switches rattle then I may take it apart and see if I can fit rubber bushings on either side of the signal stalk.

I had a similar issue with my turn signal. It is a different make but the fix was quick and almost not detectable. I put a small piece of black electrical tape on the metal behind the lever. Been working good for a couple of years

The electrical tape is a simple enough solution. I’ll try that first. It looks like there’s enough clearance between the housing and cover to fit one wrap of cloth tape around the stalk. If that doesn’t do the trick I was thinking I may be able to relieve the openings on either side enough to fit adhesive backed felt furniture strips.
