what color is it. I've been to 3 different paint stores in an effort to identify the color that in on my car. All 3 used the paint instrument that you hold against the body and it gives you a formula. All 3 spent at least a 1/2 hour mixing up different shades but no one could get it right, or even close. I believe this is a dying art. No one can do it. I would send my cowl vent off to someone if I thought they could, but I know of no one. And each one of them said, yes no problem, I can do it.

Re: what color is it. Gary Elliott
GE Auto Paints 2403 East Anaheim St. Long Beach, CA 90804 562 433 0915 I have had success with him twice. He can put it in a spray can or touch up bottle or by the quart. For best match send a sample from near the location you need to match. Not an ashtray to match a fender. Works good Lasts long time |
Re: what color is it. If its metallic then spay method will change the colour ,got to be blended into the next panel.even solid colours the same .you can butt match but needs to be done by the operator .send the sample over and iLL eye match it .

Re: what color is it. Those computers scan the paint and give an "approximate" match. Up to the paint store (or the painter) to tint that to get an exact match and yes, I think that's a dying art. Back in the 70's I was a full time painter and you had to be able to tint and match paint and I got to be good at it (good teacher, an old painter that had been painting since the 40's). A couple years ago the local paint shop couldn't match a color I needed, I talked them into letting me in the mixing room to do it myself. They ended up hiring me as a part time consultant, I'd go in and match tough colors for them, their employees, nor the owner could match paint worth a darn! Lost art indeed I guess. The computer scanners are a great time saver but nothing matches like the human eye!
Funny thing about those computer gizmos, they just pickout a close formula, not nessasarly the right one. I was matching the original Ford blue on my 40. I knew the computer wouldn't have 40's formulas so it gave me one for an 80's Fiat. Ugh! Embarrasing to have a Fiat color on my 40 but it is real damn close to the right color! |
