led bulb's

I have a 47 car that no matter what I do I just can't get bright enough taillights
I have try pretty well everything. Is there a 6 volt led taillight bulb that would fit my 47 car that maybe be plug and play ?

Re: led bulb's

Should be several alternative LED's to choose from for your application. You need a 21 Candle Power Stop and 3 Candle Power tail lamp equivalent. Take the bulb out and check the pins to see if the are off set. You should be able to look up on the website of several LED bulb vendors and ask for the match for your application.

Try ebay - there are a number of sellers with 6 volt led taillight bulbs, double filament

Yes the pins are offset. I will try ebay. I just thought someone had did this before and had the bulb number or retailer.

One thing to watch out for. I bought a bunch of LED 1157s and 1156s from Aliexpress (Ebon Blade Store @ $4.10 CAD). Strangely, shipping for one was $.69 but $7.76 for two. I put in multiple orders for one each! They came as one package. They were super bright. The 1156s worked as intended but the 1157s had the two contacts and the right pins but only one filament. The two contacts were connected inside the bulb. These wouldn't work for the front park/signal lights. They were available as both positive and negative ground and white, amber and red.

Another thing to remember when ordering bulbs is what base you need. Offset lugs will be labeled BAY and parallel lugs will be BA. D will be double contact and S will be single. Example BA15D

Did you paint the inside of the taillight housings white?

LbCarCo.com , I ordered tail and park bulbs from them. Got the headlight bulbs from Amazon. What a difference they make.

measure the voltage at the connector with the load of the light bulb,a friends car came with 5 different types of bulbs from the previous owner trying to get them brighter,I traced ( only 4 volts at the bulbs) to rusty nuts and lock washers at the ammeter on his car, everything worked better after that was fixed.
work your way back if the voltage is low—- stop light switch, wiring harness junction to main harness etc.

I’m using theses LED bulbs in my 40. Got them from Amazon. Paint the inside of the buckets white, make sure you have clean connections at the connections and good grounds .

Re: led bulb's

Charlie, I did paint the inside of the buckets a bright white but still dim.
What should the voltage be for the tail lights and brake lights. Should the voltage be more for the brake light then the tail light. I'm getting 4.6 volts at brake and tail.
Wiring is not my strong suit as you can tell !!

You need LED’s, simple as that, like the car on the right. I also painted inside the housings white.

You painted the headlight reflectors white instead of re-silvering them?⁰

I cleaned the reflectors before installing the LEDs in the car on the left.

I bought the same ones as Ken Alabama and they are great. If fact I think he’s the one that recommended them to me. I also pasted some tin foil with the shiny side up and I get good reflection now. I bought from Amazon also.

your voltage seems low to me as it should be closer to 6. try running a jumper from battery to lights to see how they look getting 6volts.

Markco, are you saying I should be getting 6 volts at the rear tail light socket for both tail and brake ? Thanks for any help as you can tell I hate wiring.

think of it this way, voltage at batt is say 6.4 volts . the difference you measure at the lights is a loss somewhere in the electrical system. this can be found by checking voltage from one end to the other to find the voltage loss. could be as simple as a bad wiring connector. get your wiring diagram and look at that circut and follow it from on end to th other.

As others have answered, it should be closer to 6 for both brake and tail light

Thanks to everyone for the replies. I guess I need to get under the car and get to work.
I do wander why I'm getting 4.6 volts at both tail and brake. Time to get to work.
