Winfield Head Paint

1 Attachment(s)
Hey, gang. Quick question that the H.A.M.B. wasn’t able to definitively answer. I own an original 6:1 Yellow Winfield head. Do we know if the heads had the “Winfield” script painted in a contrasting color as delivered? I’m trying to get the ‘29 Phaeton as period correct as possible, and this is one thing I don’t have a clear answer for. Thanks in advance.

I did a fair amount of research on this question a couple years ago for my Winfield red head and I never turned up any positive evidence that the logo was painted a contrasting color.

That’s my assumption based on research too, alexiskai. Just trying to firm things up. I’m the guy that takes the time to grind modern markings off of bolts if they can be seen. Ha!

I've found tossing them in the lathe produces a better result. Sometimes I chuck them up in a drill and use the angle grinder if I've only got 1 or 2 to do.

Found this in the summer ‘09 issue of “Hot for Hot Fours.” The photos are B&W, but I sure don’t see any contrasting logo paint.

Thanks for all the replies. In the absence of knowledge from someone that owned one new, I’ll not paint the script. For now! Ha.
