deluxe speedo sticky?

Is there an adjustment or lubing option on the 40 deluxe Speedo?

It's the only part of the dash I don't have fully working. If I connect it it sort of works but whines and jumps around. if I disconnect it the cable from the trans seems to turn steadily and smoothly. I'd like to get it back working :)

It’s probably also due for a cleaning.

ditto,
If it's jumping, I would lube the cable with graphite.

I also found that if you support the speedo cable so it goes straight into the speedometer, without a sharp bend, it helps reduces the stress on the cable.
I used a piece of electrical wire and a wire tie. Speedo (not seen) is on the left.

Sorry for the double post.

See the brass plug that is removed from the hole just above the cable hookup tube. There is a felt in there that needs a little oil. Take a sharp thin knife blade to get under the brass plug to remove it.

that's how I fixed our '41 speedo. drove the speedo with a square drive bit in a battery drill, in correct direction, while adding light oil onto the wick. took out all needle jumping
