Eaton gas cap, original or aftermarket? 1 Attachment(s)
I picked up an old gas cap. It was advertised as an Eaton.
There are no Eaton markings on the inside. Did Eaton make them without adding their markings? |
Re: Eaton gas cap, original or aftermarket? Rusted away. Looks like they would have to pay royalties if it isn't.

Re: Eaton gas cap, original or aftermarket? The direct answer, which is helpful in future searches of the forum:
The picture shows an original Eaton gas cap. This is because of the vent holes and a side profile would show a height of about 1/2”. |
Re: Eaton gas cap, original or aftermarket? Dissolve the rust (Evaporust) and you may be able to see some traces of the printing with a magnifying glass. This view looks like an Eaton cap. A side view would help.

Re: Eaton gas cap, original or aftermarket? My cap is rustier than this one :(
Is it better to use Evaporust and clean it up? Or buy a new reproduction cap? |

Evaporust, followed by some pickin' to make sure the vent holes are open, would be my suggestion. BTW, Evaporust says that you can immerse for minutes to hours, I have not found that effective, I go overnight on almost all things. |

Re: Eaton gas cap, original or aftermarket? Can these caps be disassembled to work out dents in the top and then re-assembled?
