Shocks difference
 

Hello all,


I noticed the shocks on my 1941 Ford Car has similar shocks as my 1931 Model A. Are they the same? Rated differently? What are the differences if any?

Different. Not sure base mounting holes are even the same. Each year of model a, different suppliers, if authenticity is not your concern then limitless substitutes are worth experimenting, and money spent is not a concern. The model a judging standards, and restoration guidelines available thru the two national model a ford clubs would be your accurate source of correct original shocks information. I can sell you a restored set of originals for your 1931 today.

Some of the chassis parts catalogs have good illustrations of all the different who-die shocks. There were a lot of differences as the Fords evolved. They finally offered piston or aircraft shocks as they called them back then but that wasn't till late 1947.

I have restored originals on my 29 Tudor and Stipes on my 29 Business Coupe. I don’t notice any difference between the two. Neither offer much comfort. The old joke is "the passengers in a Model A are the shock absorbers." I find that to be true, especially on the neglected streets of Portland, OR.

The V8 shock stick out farther from the frame and will catch on the brake rods.
