Wheel Cylinder ID ???? 1940 FORD I am noticing that the wheel cylinder internal bore size for 1940 Ford cars varies by different sellers. My 40 coupe was an early production car. I believe the correct wheel cylinder bore for the front is
1.00 x 1.125 and the rears correct size is 1.250 x 1.00. Is that correct? I notice the GREEN BIBLE lists two different part numbers for the front and the back so I am thinking there are two different sizes. Thanks, JIM |
Re: Wheel Cylinder ID ???? 1940 FORD One number is for left and the other for right.

Re: Wheel Cylinder ID ???? 1940 FORD While I'm far from an expert; from my experience '39-'41 fronts were 1"x1-1/4", '42-'48 fronts were 1"x1-3/8", and '39-'48 rears were 1"x1-1/8".
Now-a-days it seems all the front cylinders sold are the '42-'48 1"x1-3/8" sized units. They have worked OK for us on the earlier type backing plates. Probably an improvement. All sizes of cups are available; but, unless things have changed, in the past only NOS or NORS cups seemed workable when rebuilding cylinders. I think someone recently posted NAPA cup numbers that are supposed to be good. |
