Take a look at this video and then call the company with your specific questions.

The other option is to wait until the seller successfully, neatly and completely makes the 12V conversion and then you buy it as a fully working vehicle. That way you're not buying into a "project" you don't need.

I found this book helpful. Section on OD transmission, List bulb conversions. Simple and Short.

I had a '53 that was converted to 12V. The horns need no change. The gauges can be made to work with voltage reducers. The blower motor can be replaced with a 12V one or you can have it rewound at a electric motor rebuilding shop. I didn't have overdrive, so i'm not sure on that part

I just completed the conversion on my '51 Tudor. For the overdrive I purchased 12 volt relay and solenoid. What has been said about the other things is correct.

Converting to 12 v is a very good mover for most applications, but not necessary for a local use "OLD" car. The biggest advantage is::::: You can go anyplace with it. Done properly. I've done many, and never used a 12 converted starter. Always carried a spare, but never used it. I also install an in tank fuel pump, that solves the fuel system. and never use a belt driven fam, only electric. Convert the water pups with same pulleys for a one narrow belt Altinator drive / Modernizing the accessory drive on the engine also eliminates problens for long distant drive.
I could go on here and replace to trans to T170 and a8" ford rear This way you can use the original wheels and nobody will know Probably good for 110K with just general maintenance.

Like Ol Ron said the starter is one thing you don't have to change. I ran a six volt starter in my 55 bird for five years with no issues. Tim

Thanks Ford Barners for all the input on a 12v converted system I wonder how to obtain the book spoken by two you I would like to buy the 53 but I have a small slag the man I first spoke too on buying the car has since passed away so know I have to deal with a mechanic representing the family and the car is multiple states away the car has had several improvments which keeps my interest

Ran a 12 vt conversion on my "52 F1 for over ten years. Had the bendix break on the 6vt starter but it was the old one that came with the truck when it was new. A voltage drop on the gauges and all good to go. Chap

Re: 6volt to 12volt conversion on a 53 Ford

There's a volt drop on the back of the early Mustang gauge panel that I have used for the volt drop for the gauges. It can be found on e-Bay or at some auto parts stores. The Motorcraft part # is GR-508. It's called an instrument cluster voltage regulator. Many of them listed on e-Bay for $25-$30.
