41 Mercury hood latch
 

Did Ford and Mercury use different size hood latches? I'm needing a upper hood latch for my 41 Mercury coupe, that's the part mounted on the hood. All the ones I have found is 14 inches across on the long end, 10 inches on the short end, but my hood measures 13 inches long end and 9 inches short end. Anyone know what years would fit?

41 Mercury only. I have 2 hoods but not sure about that part.

If the latch mechanism is the same in the center, get the longer one and trim the edges to fit your hood.

On a Mercury things look the same as a Ford , but next to nothing is. It's bigger then a Ford but not a Lincoln. Tim

I thought about getting the Ford one but the bolt holes are too different to cut to fit. The Ford latch on the front is 8 1/4 inches apart, the rear is 12 1/2 inches apart. The Mercury front is 8 inches and the rear is 11 inches. If I cut the Ford latch and drill new holes it will throw the shape off to much for it to fit right.
