Gas Gauge Repairs

2 Attachment(s)
My gas gauge has been leaking since I got the car and the gauge has been reading 1/4 low so it needed attention.
Got the necessary parts and tools from snyders and today was the day to fix it.
Of course I had nearly 3/4 of a tank but my jiggle siphon pulled out 5 gallons quickly and I was ready for disassembly.
The pictures below will show what I found.
Rather than fixing it correctly someone attached a second float and arm to the original !
It is all back together now using the proper parts and working as it should.

Good job Pete. That float looks like a sink.

That looks like something that might have been done through the filler neck and not on a workbench. MacGyver at its best.

Hey, they made it work, didn't they?

Surprised former owner didn't swear to this contraption being original, optional (two floats are better than one), or the rare & very late 31 only gas gauge.

Other interesting quote ..............."It must be correct; my car is all original!"......... except metallic red paint, dual exhaust, sealed beam headlights, etc.

This is the great part about our cars .............. most of them have had at least one "special" repair allowing them to still be viable for us 90 years later. Yay for ingenious solutions and the folks that keep trying.
