Headlight Wire Terminals

Good afternoon guys/gals:

I just ordered/received my order of Headlamp Wire Terminals from Snyder's. My question is, do these get soldered onto the wiring harness or what. Still learning here so I thought I would throw the question out there.

Thanks!

Dave

Solder them on to the wire. I soldered the hole up on the connector then fluxed the wire and heated the connector up so the solder flowed, then shoved the wire in the connector. Worked all 6 times.

Try not to let the solder wick too far up the wires. This makes the wire susceptible to breakage where the solder ends. Use just the minimum amount of solder.

Ok, I guess I have been in the fumes from the Model A too long. I looked back at Snyder's page for the headlight socket and it said if you order the wiring harness from them those connectors are already on the leads. I did check it and, and yes they are on the wires already. Jeeze, Guess I still have "New Years Fog" hahaha

Re: Headlight Wire Terminals

Well, Dave, I am glad you figured it out. The black disk that holds the connectors is plastic on some of the repro wiring harness. They have been reported to have melted when there is resistance or too high of amperage, such as with quartz bulbs. Make sure the sector that turns has bright shinny contacts and put some electrical grease on the contacts to keep them from oxidizing. And use the LED bulbs, the ones that are self focusing.

Re: Headlight Wire Terminals

There seems to be some confusion here, Canton is talking about headlight sockets and it sounds like nkaminar is talking about the headlight switch.

Re: Headlight Wire Terminals

The following instruction is how I connected my lights:
1. The wires exiting the wiring harness to your light should have male bullet ends as received. If not, solder on A-14486 male bullet ends to each wire.
2. Each of the wires coming from the light socket should also have the same termination. If not, solder on A-14486 male bullets to each. I also run a seperate ground wire from the socket to the interior of the light housing.
3. Take an A-14487 wire connector and connect each lamp wire to its mating harness wire.
This method of connection works well and prevents shorting.
