Miller Hi Speed Head Installation. I have a well built A motor in my 29 and I am considering converting to a Miller head. I am looking for feedback from owners at this point and not the company. How was the install and were there any problems along the way? Are you satisfied with the performance and quality of the parts. THX. Jay

Re: Miller Hi Speed Head Installation. Jay
I have built a few motors with the Miller head The quality is top notch and machine work superb Depending on your setup you may need a fuel pump and the exhaust will be different as the ports are about 3” higher And yes I have one on a coop sn 002 if that has any weight John |
Re: Miller Hi Speed Head Installation. I have installed an early Miller, not a modern aluminum one, but they are externally the same. The hardest part is removing the stock studs, the rest is an easy bolt on. The new Miller kit is very complete, and is therefor easy to install. They perform very well, but do require a lot of spark advance in order to get maximum performance. The stock cam can be used but an OHV grind is best.

Re: Miller Hi Speed Head Installation. You will have to relocate the terminal box to inside the firewall. Also if using sock exhaust manifold you have an interferance at the rear. Headers or modify the firewall slightly.

Re: Miller Hi Speed Head Installation. So the install is a bolt on with no machine work? What is everyone using for a carb/intake setup?

Re: Miller Hi Speed Head Installation. Just wondering, does the Miller OHV setup only make gains in HP and torque in the higher rpm ranges or does the Miller OHV also improve lower end torque response above say an available 6:1 or 6.5:1 flat head?
Am thinking for street and touring use, the flat head may have an advantage. |
Re: Miller Hi Speed Head Installation. AzBob, If you go on the Miller site they have a section with dyno charts if that will help you out.

Re: Miller Hi Speed Head Installation. Jay,
The original Cragar head was a conversion done to increase capacity of the AA trucks, it was a true bolt on conversion. You are now asking about performance gains and modifications, a much different question. Jim Brierley has a book out, 4-Bangers and Me! Not too expensive and gives a really good basic understanding of the modifications done over the years. Back to your question about carbs and manifolds, it depends on your application and intended usage. I prefer a single carb on a street car, Holley 94/2100 or a Stromberg 97. Best, John |

Re: Miller Hi Speed Head Installation. My brother has two, he love them. When we drove to Colorado for the High Country Tour this summer, 4 of the 6 cars had the new Millers under the hood on new Burtz motors.
