Grease retainer

I am having trouble posting a picture but my question is, does the front spindle on a V8 use the grease retainer like the rear ends that bolt on the 4 bolts?

The answer is yes".
Here's the stock grease retainers on a 1940 Ford.
1st photo is of the rear.
2nd photo is of the front.
Both grease retainers are the same and are interchangeable.

Re: Grease retainer

The early grease retainers appear slightly different shape than the 1940.

Re: Grease retainer

The early shields are round.

I don't believe the round shields will work with hydraulic brakes - either the '39-48 Ford or the Lincolns - due to the springs and parking brake linkages. You need the squared shape for hydraulic brakes.

Do be aware that the early front backing plates used a narrower bolt pattern than the rear backing plates (either early or late). So, the later shields won't bolt-up to the early front spindles w/o slotting the mounting holes.

Not sure this will help but, here are photos of the OEM 1940 Ford grease retainers bolted to the Boling Bros. Lincoln backing plates when installing the Boling Bros Lincoln brake kit on a 40 Ford.
