Tis The Season For New Noises The cold weather causes some new noises. These are the ones I notice in my "A":
> Speedometer cable howls until it warms up. The howling is from the inner cable rubbing on the outer housing caused by over-zealous-greasing the drive gear, so the grease congeals inside the cable; > Louder valve clatter when the engine is cold; > New rattles in both rear fenders where they attach to the body; > Gear grinding from very cold transmission oil; > My teeth chattering from the car bucking because I did not warm it up enough before driving away. |
Re: Tis The Season For New Noises Bob, Is it cold in NY? Cold here in North Carolina. Forecast 17 degrees Wednesday morning.
Regarding new noises, a few around the dinner table on Christmas day. Especially from us old persons. |

I guess as with us old guys, all Model A’s have the same aches and pains. Happy Holidays! |
Re: Tis The Season For New Noises I've been chasing down all the noises and rattles in mine. I think a slight rattle in my hood that goes off when you hit a bump is the last one left. But with the cold temps recently its gone away.
I've got my high-tech radiator cardboard cover dialed in to where it warms up quick and stays right at 170f. I don't have one of those manifold heaters, but I can sure feel the engine heat coming through the floorboards when I'm going down the road. I might not like the cold, but this car seems to love it. |
