Shoebox seatbelt installs
 

I will be moving the front seat back to the factory position (was moved forward for a much shorter driver) and looking for any input on seatbelt installs others have accomplished or tried and decided against the install.


I have a set of retractable three points which would be harder to install or a set of lap belts that would be easier. Looking for pictures, instructions or any other input/experiences to help with my choices.

Just a word of caution, DO NOT INSTALL THE SEAT BELTS ON THE FRAME! Body only anchor points.
If you have a closed car (like the avatar) a three point would be a much better choice than the lap belts.

Understand that concept (body vs frame mount) and yes it is a 1950 Custom 2 door sedan.

Go to https://www.julianos.com They have a How to Install section which shows the installation of three point belts on different cars. While a shoebox is not shown, there should be enough info to help you.

Still fighting the seat position issue and working on a bracket or rail solution. Strange the seat would be so far forward and then slide even further forward to a point the steering wheel is touching the seat!!



Are there two mounting positions? Looking under the car it appears there is not as the other holes I see do not line up with the seat base bracket.



As for the seat belt thing, lap belts are easy but for a three point set up HAS anyone used the hand hold loop mounting point for the shoulder attach point? I'm sure it is not the strongest point but maybe it is stronger than I think.

Sounds liked the slide mechanism is not allowing the seat to move further back. I once owned a shoebox coupe ('49) and I had plenty of seat room when the seat slid back. I'm 6' tall. Did somebody reverse the tracks?

That's what I thought but it seems like they are in the right position with the adjuster on the drivers side. I did remove the seat and looked under the car for any non factory mount hols but they bolt right into the track frame bolt holes. VERY STRANGE!! I have seen several people with the same problem so not sure how it happens.



I'm going to pull the seat out again and see how they might have been modified but at this point making a extended seems to be the easy solution...

With the seat rearward the wheel was on my knees, I'm 6'1". The seat is stock, never modified as far as I could tell. Track bolts in the frame. Did they have a special option for ladies maybe? One of the first and only mods when I got the car was making seat frame rail extensions that put the rails 4" back. Plenty of latitude now. Been fine for 20 months. I thought about adding a shoulder belt to the assist strap bolt but that's on a back burner. It's a fairly substantial bolt.

Hey Joe I saw your post on moving the seat back (THANKS FOR THE PICS) I will be doing about the same this weekend so I can comfortable drive the car.



I haven't removed the strap to see what holds it up but I'm thinking it would be better than the NOTHING I have installed right now.


Do your lap belts have body washers or flat stock under them?
