1936 Ford Engine Removal I am going to pull the flathead engine of my 1936 Ford to get at the flywheel that needs to be machined. Can I pull the engine without having to pull the transmission along with it?

Re: 1936 Ford Engine Removal Yes. It's easiest if you remove the grille. You will need to remove the radiator regardless.

Re: 1936 Ford Engine Removal Yes pull engine and leave transmission. I disagree with removing grill. That’s a lot of extra work for no reason. Once the obvious is removed and generator. Now put some heavy corrugated cardboard or aluminum on radiator core front and back. If you look who the grill and horn panels meet you will see each side has about a 2 inch section cut back each side. You wriggle each side of radiator feet through here and after that she’s all down hill. My late great dad showed me that 50 years ago.

Re: 1936 Ford Engine Removal I removed the grille because I did not want to damage it. I did not have to pick the engine up as high either. If you think this is the first time the grille has been removed, do take pictures of how the bolts are oriented in the grille, some go one way, while others go the other. And please share the pictures.

Re: 1936 Ford Engine Removal I pulled my engine twice... V8 in a 1935 Model 48. I also removed the radiator. It made it so much easier. Only issue I had was reinstalling the second time in lining up the transmission splines with the new clutch splines. raised up the rear of the car (both rear wheels) and turned the wheel to move the trans spline just a bit and right back in she went. Not difficult to pull... just plan on a few hours. Took me 6 hours to change the radiator in my son's Mountaineer... :) .
